Attractions in and Around Grange-Over-Sands Hampsfell Hospice Built in 1846 by the vicar of Cartmel, the Hospice has provided shelter for travellers ever since. Just a half hour's walk from from Grange, the Hospice boasts an outstanding view that takes in the Old Man of Coniston, Helvelyn, The Langdales and Morecambe Bay. Humphrey Head 3 miles south of Grange-over-Sands, Humphrey Head is a popular view spot, with a panorama across Morcambe Bay. Nearby is the 800 year old Wraysholme Tower. Holker Hall and Gardens Holker Hall, family home of Lord and Lady Cavendish, boasts magnificent national award winning gardens. Surrounded by 125 acres of deer park the Hall hosts a variety of events throughout the summer season, including the annual Holker Garden Festival (June). Lakeland Motor Museum Located in the beautiful grounds of Holker Hall, the Lakeland Motor Museum features the Campbell Ledgend Bluebird exhibition detailling Sir Malcolm Campbell and his son Donald who captured 21 World Speed Records. Other exhibits include classic cars, bicycles, tractors, scooters and micro cars. Cartmel The delightful village of Cartmel is famous for its 12th Century Priory with its beautiful stained glass windows and ancient choir stalls. The village also houses a variety of interesting shops and traditional pubs around its main square. Twice a year, at spring and summer bank holidays, Cartmel hosts its highly popular steeple chase meetings attracting visitors from across the country. Lakeside at Newby Bridge The Lakeside area at Newby Bridge, a short drive from Grange-Over-Sands, is home to three of the Lake District's top attractions. The delightful Lakeside and Havethwaite Railway, Windermere Lake Cruises and The Aquarium of the Lakes. Cross Bay Walk During the summer months, a treat not to be missed is the eight mile guided walk across Morcambe Bay, usually starting from Arnside and ending at Kents Bank. The walk is three hours of magic surrounded by the beautiful bay, with oyster catchers probing for shellfish, ducks whirring overhead and splendid views of the coastline. Please note that this walk should only be attempted with an experienced guide - only experts know the safe route through the quicksands and tides.
